Enzo Calzaghe, father and trainer of Joe Calzaghe, said he was "honoured and proud" to be awarded his MBE in the recent Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2010.
The Newbridge boxing coach said: "It's an emotional day - more emotion than I though I could cope with. It's a big moment. Of all the other honours I have won, this is the top of the tree - the cream on the cake.”
"To be an MBE - to me it's something very, very special to me, but also to my family - and to my father who's still alive - it's something I will treasure for the rest of my life."
Several members of the Calzaghe family gathered at the headquarters of Caerphilly council in Ystrad Mynach for the ceremony.
Speaking with pride at seeing his dad collect his award, Joe Calzaghe said: "It's great to see my dad get the MBE. To be here today with my family and to recognise his achievements makes me very proud," he said.
The award ceremony was held in Ystrad Mynach instead of Buckingham Palace as Enzo is not a British citizen, although he confessed afterwards he preferred it that way.
